     I believe Bryce was our server and he had his hands full with our larger party. He handled it beautifully. Food was good, servers were great, beautiful weather when we walked to the lake. My autistic kid who NEVER wants to leave the house has requested we return. Literally the highest compliment we can give 🤷🏼‍♀️ thanks again Bryce!

    Verified The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was outstanding. Crab cakes were as good as usual. Beet Salad with the Goat Cheese, Candied Pecans, Apples, Spring Mix and Sherry Vinaigrette will become the usual starter. Tried Pat's Red blend wine this evening and it was a very pleasant surprise. The place was packed and the kitchen was slightly backed up and the waiter kept apologizing for the delay but that was not that big of a hiccup.

     We came in (party of 4) during a wet, rainy day. Most of the staff was allowed to go home, however, Grace was one of the most professional and personable service people I met in a long time. She answered every question knowledgeably. I know ordering a steak at a seafood restaurant isn’t the smartest move, however, it was cooked perfectly and not over-seasoned. It was delicious!! The shrimp was outstanding and the desserts to die for. The water view through the beautiful windows was spectacular. A memorable experience at a first class restaurant!!

The GM and cooks also were personable and welcoming.
Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. 
Portions were generous. 
Mac n cheese was mouth watering.  
Im not a big tipper as a rule.
Usually dont feel people care enough. 
I gave the cook a tip and extra big to Grace.
So worth every penny. 
Oh, and dessert was decadent and fresh.

     This has been one of our favorite restaurants to visit over the past few months and each time we’ve come, we have had Priscilla as our server.     Verified We had another great afternoon at Pat's. We decided on the spur of the moment to go to have an early dinner and we're lucky that it was not busy at 4pm on Sunday.  We started with the house salads and seafood gumbo. For entrees, hubby got his favorite--the catfish plate with French fries and hush puppies. That is always a winner. We tried a bowl of shrimp corn soup and bbq shrimp. This was a little different than the traditional New Orleans version but it was delicious and buttery with lots of garlic. Ask for extra French bread if you order it. For dessert, the Ooey gooey cake was decadent topped with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. After dinner we finished our drinks by sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs while watching a wedding happening at the Gazebo on the lake.

    Verified All of Pat's establishments are excellent and the rest awhile is no different.  A beautiful view of Lake Ponchartrain while you enjoy dinner.  The staff is attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu.  The food is excellent as well.  The seafood platter is enough for two, my wife and I usually split it with an appetizer.  The charbroiled oysters are delicious, in fact I think they are better than the chimes, imho.

    Verified Go early if possible and have a drink in Sophie’s bar, good selection of local beers and high end bourbons. It looks like a private room but it’s open to public. The Outside seating has a beautiful view of the lake. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food, I had the blackened Scallops and risotto, it was delicious. key Lime pies was very good too.     Verified The chargrilled oysters we garlicky and delicious! Onion rings were thin, crispy, and tangy from hot sauce batter. I had the grilled Pompano almandine with lump crabmeat and it was very good. Others had grilled seafood platter and fried shrimp platter everyone enjoyed. Our server, Sophie, was very sweet and attentive. We sat inside but outside had a great view of the Lake so I’d do that next time, if under 80 degrees.      We went to have a few cocktails at Sophie’s bar and were extremely impressed with the quality of the drinks. My wife wanted something light with cucumber and vodka. I explained that to our bartender, Kirsti, and she said she knew exactly what to make for her. I brought the drink to my wife who said it was exactly what she wanted and it was delicious! It was so good she had another one! I had a Long Island Tea and followed that up with an Old Fashioned. All of the drinks were spot on! We were able to snag a couple of rocking chairs on the porch to enjoy the weather and lakefront views. Thanks Kirsti for making our afternoon at Sophie’s a memorable one!

     Amazing, calm atmosphere. I felt like being at a good friends house for dinner. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. I had the seafood gumbo, shrimp po boy, and corn maque choux . The gumbo was SPECTACULAR, and one of the best I've had. The shrimp po boy was very good, but nothing too special. The maque choux was a little disappointing as I'm used to having it with cream and bacon, but still nice. I will definitely be coming back if I have the chance.

Ordered Casino char grilled oysters. ( Oysters, roasted red bell pepper, apple wood smoked bacon, pepper jack cheese, with garlic butter sauce and Cajun seasoning). I think it's the best on their menu. Flavor is compared to eating a perfectly cooked bell pepper pizza with grilled oysters with butter garlic sauce.

    Verified Valentines Dinner date was excellent, food and drinks were delicious especially the charbroiled pepper jack oysters.     Verified Overall, gave it 5 stars based on food quality and taste. Ordered sheepshead and the catfish dish, both tasty. The raw oysters as app was delicious. Cheesecake with berries for dessert. Very nice. Server was good, attentive but not overly so. I forgot how casual the place is and was overdressed for NYE. Next time, will opt for a more romantic setting. Still like Pat’s though.      It was my first time eating at Pats. The food, atmosphere and service were all very good. I had the cedar plank fish and my wife had the French dip. Our friends both had the hanger steak. We will definitely go back. It did get a little crowded, so I would suggest making reservations.

     Sitting upstairs outdoors on the patio overlooking the lake and beautiful live oaks,  wow. Sets the mood for a great afternoon dinner with friends. Everything we ordered was great,  Oysters were chargrilled we had 3 dozen for the table.  Onion rings were so good,  thin and crispy. I ordered the Salmon,  another ordered the steak,  gumbo and several other entrees were ordered for our table all were great.

     Celebrated a recent anniversary at Pat's.  Reservations were easy to make online.  Our table was ready upon arrival.  A nice note congratulaing us was on the table.  Service was excellent. We had the sticky wings for an app, the bone in pork chop, and a hanger steak all cooked to perfection.     Verified We stopped here for lunch on our road trip last week. Mackenzie was our server, and she was very efficient and friendly. We had very good food with catfish, wedge salad, shrimp and corn bisque, gumbo, Caesar salad with shrimp, and several good cocktails.

Our son had the gumbo which he said was good but not as good as the best he has had. Our shrimp and corn bisque was absolutely delicious. I would love to have that again.

We were in the dining room, which was a very lovely room with nice windows looking out to the lake. The outside dining upstairs has a better view of the lake, but it was still very nice. We wanted to stay in the air-conditioning.

    Verified This was our first visit, and we will be back. Loved the atmosphere. The food was really, really incredible. The best fried shrimp I've ever had. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Delicious fried catfish. Good gumbo with a dark roux. The gulf fish almondine was amazing. The ooey gooey dessert and the bread pudding were out of this world.      A true "gem" on the Northshore. A beautiful restaurant that offers a spectacular view of the lake, and that's just for starters. The ambience inside is complimented by the wonderful service and excellent food. The corn maque choux is a MUST try, very, very tasty, just to name one side dish.

     It was really good. I wouldn't hesitate to take a date there if I was crazy enough to date.

I was expecting a smaller place. This place is two buildings connected by a mezzanine between them with seating and a bar in each building and the mezzanine. Parking is in the back but it's not all paved or even gravel so consider your shoes. I lucked into a spot right by the stairs. When I got to the top I saw the hostess straight ahead who advised me to sit at one of the bars since it was just me. Friday at 7 the wait was an hour, which isn't bad for a popular restaurant at peak time.

Sitting at the bar I overheard heard resolutions for a couple of people with minor problems.  Hey, it happens and I think the staff took care of them well. My bartender had myself and a couple. Menu and drink came immediately. Combo plate was not long coming either.

I was a little disappointed at first, seeing the small pieces of fish, but then I realized it was a full fillet they'd just cut it up. A couple of the oysters were a little tough. The fries were excellently crispy. The fried fish, shrimp, and oysters all tasted great. The coleslaw was... bland. It was fine, but it needed something. A dash of Tony's, chili powder, maybe a little vinegar, something. The tartar sauce had a distinct celery taste. Some don't like celery. I'm fine with it in some places. I'm still undecided where this sits on my "preference rating", but either way I thought the cocktail and tartar sauce were both good.

Overall I say 4.5 stars: not perfect, but really good overall. Friendly staff, good food, reasonably priced, and with lake views from some tables at least. I think for atmosphere you could come here for prom date, business dinner, or family dinner. Or just  or do like I did. I was just in town and wanted catfish.

Austin the bartender had only been there a few days and his coworker Noel were just awesome!  They are what you wish for when you sit at the bar any restaurant.  Attentive, friendly and in no time we felt like we were locals. The chargrilled oysters were our starter.  Best I have ever had, and I'm from Louisiana, so I've had them everywhere.  Because we overheard the comments of others, we decided to order the Lobster Rolls.  My, my, my.  Huns got the hot, I got the cold.  They were AMAZING! We expected the actual

     The weather was absolutely perfect for outdoor dining so we chose to opt for the covered porch area. The outside layout is well throughout with a nice view of Lake Pontchartrain. Our server was polite and friendly. The fried shrimp and catfish platter was delicious! I loved the hush puppies and coleslaw as well. We also ordered the frog legs, fried oyster and shrimp platter and the beet salad. I would recommend giving any of those dishes a try.      Pat's Rest Awhile: A Refreshing Experience
We had a less-than-stellar dining experience at another restaurant in Mandeville earlier in the day, where we encountered poor service and even had food spilled on my dress. Needless to say, we were feeling quite disheartened.

However, our experience at Pat's Rest Awhile completely turned our day around. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. We were seated immediately, and finding parking was a breeze. The restaurant itself has a wonderful, chill atmosphere with a fantastic view of the water.

The service was exceptional – attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The food and drinks were delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The charbroiled oysters were the highlight of the meal.

Pat's Rest Awhile was the perfect way to end our day out and about in Mandeville.

I highly recommend Pat's Rest Awhile to anyone looking for a fantastic meal in a beautiful setting with top-notch service.

    Verified Went to Pat's for lunch last Friday to use a gift card we had gotten last Christmas. The food and service were spot on!  I ordered the fish Almondine which was pompano. It was fabulous! It came topped with crabmeat and just enough almonds for crunch!  It was buttery without being oily and cooked to perfection!  My husband had the skirt steak and fries. He was not a fan of the marinade they used (it was heavy on the Worcestershire sauce) I thought it was fine. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu items. They had a seasonal drink menu, but I went with a $5 martini special. The ambience is very nice, but it was just a bit chilly. All in all a spectacular meal.

     I specifically wanted to leave this review about our waiter, Jesse. He was outstanding! He was courteous, efficient, polite and friendly. We were there for a family birthday dinner and he was very helpful for pulling it together. Everything we ordered was delicious, the ribeye, cajun pasta and fried shrimp..only complaint was the skirt steak..very overcooked and dry. However we didn’t complain..things happen.

     The restaurant is awesome.  The weather was not, and probably took away from how cool this place is because everyone was inside.  But we were in a small 4 table room and it was obnoxiously loud.  To the point we asked to be reseated but there was no where to go.  We sucked it up and it was worth it. Yes, there was a little wait, but that was to be expected given it was the Saturday before Mother's Day. Even with the crowd, our sever was attentive, and the food came out hot and fresh. The only thing I wish they offer is Hot French buttered bread with their delicious barbecue shrimps.      WOW! What a great place! It was packed, but you don't really care. They have some nice rocking chairs looking out over the lake to calm your nerves, if that doesn't work they also have 3 bars upstairs that you can "pick your poison" and chill. We got some drinks and hung out upstairs overlooking the beautiful lake and all the activities that were going on. I think our wait was over an hour, but it only seemed a short while as the view was spectacular and the conversation was great with other guests. Everyone is very friendly here. The staff was top notch and even recognized the regular customers, which I plan to be from now on. Let's get to the food... In a word - Outstanding! From the chargrilled oysters to the chili shrimp appetizers to the main course, all was well more than anticipated. The cheesecake dessert was out of this world, creamy with the best flavor I've ever had. Definitely give this place a try. You won't regret it.

     Went for an early birthday lunch this weekend, reservations are for inside only. The food is amazing- we had the sweet chili glazed shrimp(15/10), the hanger steak was a little undercooked but absolutely fantastic. The pork chop was also great. The chargrilled oysters were very dry, still good to eat. No complaints besides an empty drink the entire meal and could not get a hold of our server. Service needs improvement but the atmosphere and food were well worth it. Will definitley be back.

     A perfect Saturday afternoon spot for a 32-year-old’s b’day celebration. Ordered BBQ shrimp for our appetizer, along with a fried shrimp platter and green beans as an entree. Pinot Grigio wine spritzers for me while my daughter sipped her Bloody Mary’s. An outdoors table with a lake view added to the afternoon’s ambiance.

    Verified An avid fan of all of Pat Gallagher's restaurants, this was my third visit to Rest Awhile, and every visit gets better and better. I'm horribly gluten intolerant, and on top of a gluten-free menu, there are items on the menu marked where they can be made gluten free. I've never had a reaction from cross-contamination. The other night, we met one of my best friends and her husband for dinner. They frequent the lakefront but didn't know about this restaurant. My friend ordered the tuna, her husband and my husband each ordered the steak, and I had the almondine (sans almonds - they contain gluten). We also had a cup of the shrimp and corn bisque, which - per usual, was incredible. They don't skimp out on the shrimp, either. Our waitress was very attentive and provided excellent service. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and cocktails. My friend commented on how soon she plans on coming back, and she especially loved the charm the restaurant has. If you're coming before or around sunset, reserve a table by the window. There are stellar views of the lakefront, and if it's a sunny day, it's absolutely beautiful.

     My review is for the outside deck bar. The service was very good, and the bourbon selection was pretty good. I definitely want to visit the other two bars on the premises, especially the side bar that supposedly has a high-end selection.

Since my first few visits at the outside bar, I have been inside to eat, say on the front porch with a group,  and sat at the small bar off to the side. All have been a great experience.

    Verified The place has a great view of Lake Pontchartrain and atmosphere although I felt the table seating particularly the chairs could've been a little bit more comfortable. Their architecture of the building is pretty neat with an extensive deck with outdoor seating as well as indoor areas. We were initially forgotten about until a waiter noticed we'd been sitting there for a while. He came over and offered to take our order. They comp'd our first round of drinks, so they well made up for it. The food and drinks were excellent. I had the salmon, which is on the bed of corn. My husband had crab cakes. Our friend had a hamburger because he doesn't like seafood. The food was outstanding.

We were in a party of 16, server (Mercedes) was spot on, very friendly, animated and professional, most importantly everyone's orders were exactly as ordered and after a modest wait all the orders came out together.      Awesome place with a spectacular view of the lake. Sat at the oyster bar for a cocktail (the cajun lady was really good) while waiting for the side bar and kitchen to open. We had grilled oysters, bbq shrimp and shrimp Creole, all which were delicious. The side bar was a cool nautical theme bar with a nice atmosphere until a group of obnoxious men came in waving money at the bartender then started playing music so loudly on their phone you couldn't even hear the music in the bar. We probably would have stayed for another drink but since we had finished eating, we got our check and left. I'd still go back though, it's not their fault people are idiots!

     Went with a party of 4. Make a reservation. It was packed.  This was my first visit, and we approached with my vehicle from the front.  Since there was no parking, I opted to go around the block.  To my surprise, there was a huge parking lot with an entrance on the street behind.  All apps, drinks and food ordered by each of us was really good.  Service was good until the end as we were waiting for our server to pick up our payment.  We finally asked another server to take our payments after patiently waiting 10 minutes. Definitely add this place to your list.

     I am from AZ and was visiting my sis and brother in law - they told me Rest A While is a must do and they were right! Great atmosphere; lively, friendly and welcoming. The food was great- I had crab cakes that were delicious, and tried one of my brother in law's hush puppies... yummy! The onion string are not to be missed, crispy, perfectly seasoned and sweet onions. So good! Service was friendly and professional! What a cool place.

     It was delicious.  Lived nearby for 4.5 years and just made it there with some friends from out of town.  I had a salmon dish that was perfectly prepared, the cocktails were great but very expensive, and the deserts were phenomenal as well.  Rarely do I overeat, but I totally overate at Pat's as did everyone with me.  They practically had to roll us all down the stairs when we were done.  Highly recommend dining there, especially if it's a nice day for outside dining.  While you can get out of there without a hefty bill, it's really easy to end up with a big bill because the food is so good you keep wanting more.  Most of the dining is on the second floor and they do have an elevator available.

     Great place on the water for some delicious seafood.  The view of the lake is quite nice and the outdoor seating area would be excellent on a warm day. The cocktails are quite good and flow smoothly.  I had a red fish with a ginger root crusted exterior and butter sauce.  It was fantastic!   Great place for any dining experience.

     I went here on NYE2022 with family for lunch.  We made a reservation for 11:30am.  We were the first ones there and the tables quickly began to be occupied indoors as noon approached.  There were many sitting on the patio deck when I left.

Had there not been fog, the view of the lake would have been gorgeous from the windows.  The ambiance is rustic warm and inviting with a touch of the building's history.

I had the sweet chili glazed shrimp and the plank red fish with the fresh green beans.  The food was delicious.  The flavors complimented each other, the fish and shrimp were succulent and not overcooked, the portion sizes met the price point and meal satisfaction well.   I almost forgot to take a photo because the entrée was so good.
I had bread pudding for dessert. The bread pudding is definitely a sharable size.
Coffee was one of the best I've ever had at a restaurant.

It's a great place to bring family and friends to unwind, relax, and rest awhile.  It is certainly worth a trip across the Causeway if you live on the south shore of the lake.    I will be back for the recommended hanger steak when I'm hankering beef.

    Verified Food was amazing. I had both a sea food platter the first night, the second night the plank lake fish. Wife had burger and chicken sandwich, both were good. A little on the spendy side for what you get, but lake front location to be expected. Oysters were good both raw and charbroiled. Staff was great! Liberty was very nice! Ambiance on the lake was great when it's clear. Little less impressive outside when it's foggy, but that's not anyone's fault, and inside dining was great too!!

     My husband, our friend and I ate dinner here tonight. Everything was incredible!
We had the raw oysters,  charbroiled oysters and beet salad to start. My husband and our friend loved the oysters. The beet salad was probably one of the best beet salads I’ve ever had! I loved that the goat cheese was fried.
For entrees, my husband got the Gulf Fish Almondine and I got the Ribeye. Everything was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Our friend had the Cedar- Plank Redfish and he ate every bite!

Thank you for such a wonderful meal! We will be coming back next time we come back to town!

     We had onion rings to start.  I had Chilean Salmon and hubs had Cedar Plank Gulf fish. For dessert we split a key lime pie.  The poinsettias and bloody Mary's were delicious. Madison was a wonderful server and the atmosphere cannot be beat.  We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day!  Can't wait to come back
